Favorite Anchorage: Great Harbour
Located on Jost Van Dyke, Great Harbour is a popular and spacious anchorage known for its easy access to island attractions and lively atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot to explore the laid-back lifestyle of Jost Van Dyke, with its charming beach bars and restaurants.
One of the main draws to this harbor is its proximity to the world-famous Foxy’s Bar, where you can experience live music and local cuisine just steps from your mooring. Great Harbour offers a relaxed yet social vibe, making it ideal for travelers looking to mingle or unwind after a day of sailing.

Anchorage Options at Great Harbour:
- Primary Mooring Area: There are multiple mooring balls in the harbor that can be used on a first-come, first-served basis or reserved through BoatyBall. These moorings provide convenient access to the shoreline and the lively heart of Jost Van Dyke.
- Western Side: For a quieter stay, head toward the western side of the harbor, where you'll find fewer boats and more tranquility. It’s still close enough to the action but offers a bit more seclusion.
- Little Harbour: Little Harbour on Jost Van Dyke offers a tranquil anchorage choice, ideal for those seeking a secluded and peaceful setting. There are a few mooring balls available, and taxis can be arranged for transportation to Great Harbour if required.

Great Harbour’s Highlights:
- Dining: In addition to Foxy’s, visit Corsair's Beach Bar & Restaurant or Ali Baba's Bar and Restaurant for delicious seafood and cocktails.
- Beaches: The beach at Great Harbour is a wonderful spot for swimming and sunbathing. Or take a quick dinghy ride over to nearby White Bay, home of the famous Soggy Dollar Bar, where you can try the legendary Painkiller cocktail.
- Activities: If you're up for it, you can check out the awesome hiking trails on the island that give you breathtaking views of the sea and nearby islands.
October Weather
October in the British Virgin Islands is a transitional month, with slightly cooler temperatures and a decrease in humidity as the islands move toward the dry season. You can expect temperatures to hover around 85°F (29°C) during the day and 77°F (25°C) at night. Water temperatures remain warm, averaging around 81°F (27°C), perfect for snorkeling and swimming.
Although October is near the end of the hurricane season, it’s still important to monitor weather reports. The islands may experience occasional tropical showers or storms, but these are typically short-lived and followed by sunny skies. Keep in mind that some local businesses may have limited hours during this time, so plan ahead.
