Top Events in July
July in the British Virgin Islands is packed with exciting events and activities. Here are some highlights you won't want to miss:
1. BVI Emancipation Festival (July 25th - August 10th): Celebrate the islands' rich cultural heritage with music, dance, and delicious local cuisine. THis year is the 70th anniversary. Christmas in July (July 20): Since 2007, Christmas in July has been an annual event in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) where boaters from Puerto Rico and nearby areas converge for a week of festivities. In Savannah Bay, Virgin Gorda, up to 2,000 people and 500 boats come together for wild party. See more here.
Favorite Anchorage: The Dogs
One of the most picturesque spots to moor in the British Virgin Islands is The Dogs. This small group of islands, located just a short sail from Tortola, offers stunning scenery and excellent snorkeling and diving opportunities. The calm waters and beautiful coral reefs make it an ideal location to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the BVI.

Anchorage Options at The Dogs:
- Great Dog: Moorings on the Southern side provides good shelter and access to snorkeling spots near the rocky shoreline. Mooring balls are available from the National Parks Trust for added convenience.
- George Dog: This small cay offers a more secluded anchorage, perfect for a quiet afternoon surrounded by clear waters. Several NPT mooring balls are available on the west side.
- West Dog: Known for its underwater caves and swim-throughs, West Dog offers adventurous snorkeling opportunities and a peaceful anchorage. Find the NPT mooring balls on the west side of the island/
The Dogs are also a popular spot for day trips and picnics, with several secluded beaches to explore. Make sure to check the sea state as they are fairly exposed and swells can make the area unsafe in certain conditions.
July Weather
July is characterized by warm temperatures and generally calm seas, making it an ideal time for water activities. The average high temperature is around 88°F (31°C), with lows around 79°F (26°C). Expect occasional showers, usually brief and followed by sunshine. In July, the water temperature in the British Virgin Islands typically averages a warm and inviting 82-84°F (28-29°C).
