Welcome to the August edition of the BVI Charter Chat newsletter, where we bring you the latest events and activities happening in the British Virgin Islands. This month, discover another of our favorite spots, Benures Bay, and stay informed with the August weather outlook.

Top Events in August
As August arrives in the British Virgin Islands, activities are beginning to slow down a bit for the season. Here are some key events that you should make sure not to miss:
1. BVI Emancipation Festival (July 25th - August 10th): Celebrate the islands' rich cultural heritage with music, dance, and delicious local cuisine. This year marks the 70th anniversary. The festivities culminate early August, but events throughout July and early August offer a taste of BVI culture. [https://www.facebook.com/VirginIslandsFestival]
2. Trellis Bay Full Moon Party (August 19th): Experience the magic of full moon nights with a lively beach party. See live music, fire dancers, Moko Jumbie dancers, and more at this fun monthly event. [https://trellisbaymarket.com/fullmoonparty/].
Favorite Anchorage: Benures Bay
One of the most picturesque spots to moor in the British Virgin Islands is Benures Bay. Located on the north side of Norman Island, Benures Bay offers a serene anchorage with clear waters perfect for snorkeling and swimming. The bay's calm and secluded nature makes it an ideal location to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the BVI. Additionally, the bay offers great snorkeling opportunities, with vibrant coral reefs and abundant marine life just waiting to be explored.

Anchorage Options at Benures Bay:
- Northern Shore: Provides good shelter and access to snorkeling spots near the rocky shoreline. Mooring balls are available from the National Parks Trust for added convenience.
- Western End: Offers a more secluded anchorage, perfect for a quiet afternoon surrounded by clear waters. Several NPT mooring balls are available on the west side.

Benures Bay is also a popular spot for day trips and picnics, with several secluded beaches to explore. For those looking to stretch their legs, Norman Island offers great hiking trails that provide stunning views of the surrounding islands and bays. A trailhead starts at the beach and trails lead all over the Island.
We think this location is perfect for spending the last night. Its proximity is ideal for a quick return to base in the early morning to drop off the boat. Typically quiet and peaceful, it serves as an excellent spot to relax after an incredible vacation.
August Weather
August is characterized by warm temperatures and generally calm seas, making it an ideal time for water activities. The average high temperature is around 88°F (31°C), with lows around 79°F (26°C). Expect occasional showers, usually brief and followed by sunshine. In August, the water temperature in the British Virgin Islands typically averages a warm and inviting 82-84°F (28-29°C).
Please be aware that August is also part of the peak hurricane season, which can bring unpredictable weather patterns and potential storms. It’s important to stay updated on weather forecasts and advisories. Additionally, many restaurants and bars may be temporarily closed during the low season, so it's a good idea to check ahead for operating hours and availability.
